Kitchen Thoughts

Just about every house we look at in Kentucky needs some work. Mostly just paint and flooring. Some need wall paper taken down (not my favorite thing to do), others need something done with the dark 70's paneling in the basement. There are a lot that need some bad stenciling painted over too. 


Since I had some time to kill in the afternoons, I went to different stores and checked out paint colors.  I pretty much knew what I want, but just need to see what else is out there. Maybe even get inspired. 


I love yellow, always have. I remember taking an interior design class in college, some 30 years ago, and even back then, the kitchen I designed was yellow.


Our house now has mostly beiges, browns, and khaki greens. It looks really nice, but since I do believe we will not have an open floor plan, I want to go with more color.

We have had this picture for a number of years. I love the colors. I think it is perfect for the kitchen, so I believe I will use this as my inspiration piece.

You really can't tell here, but the paint chip on the left is a very soft yellow...Champagne Sparkle. The wood is from our current kitchen table.

Just look at these paint colors. I think they go really well with the colors in the picture. Since I am not sure what house we're getting, I will just have to wait and see what colors I will actually use. I may just go with the yellow and paint the molding white. Maybe I will just go with blue as an accent color. I'm sure I'll change my mind a zillion times.

In our house now we have plantation type blinds, but our last house had bamboo blinds. I really like bamboo! I might go with the bamboo in the kitchen, especially if is on the back of the house.

Well, these are my thoughts for our kitchen. I have ideas for other rooms too...but I'll share those later.

Snazzy Frame

The other day I went with my mother in law to run some errands and do a little shopping. While we were at the store, I saw this really cool frame. There were actually three different styles. It was very hard to choose. I can't wait to put a picture in it and display it in our new home...

Jewelry Light Box

A good example of  a bad photo. These beads are not black and white, they are actually BYU colors; dark blue and white.

I love to make jewelry and I love to take pictures. Many times, I have to combine the two. Many times, my jewelry pictures are just so, so. Hopefully, not for long, though.


Today, I was surfing the net, and looking at jewelry blogs. Karyn stopped by my blog and left a message. I decided to visit her blog and found the coolest idea! A DIY photography light box. Perfect! I can't wait to try it out. The only thing is, I just threw away  a gazillion boxes last trash day. And there were some perfect boxes for the project. Oh well, I'm sure I'll have several to choose from after we move, and I will probably wait til then. I really don't want to create one just to have the movers smash it to pieces...

Fringe Fleece Blanket

I just love our local library. We do such cool things. Most libraries have activities for small children and teens, but our's has things for adults too. Just a few of the the activities we've had are, a visit from a local master gardener, lunch and lecture with several health care professionals, painting a lap desk, a couple of jewelry classes (I taught both of these), internet recipes, computer classes, etc. The most recent activity the library has sponsored is Knit Wits. Basically, it is a time to bring your crochet or knitting stuff in and work on it. 

I brought in something very unusually that I have been working on

I've been crocheting with "plarn" or in other words, Walmart bags. I know all of us have a ton of these. I use them for garbage, but who has that much trash? I saw this idea on youtube and decided to try it. I'll have to blog about it another time.

Last time I went to Knit Wits, one of my friends brought in a project she was needing help with. So I'll share with you. She was working on a fringed fleece blanket.

Tonya is a BIG LSU fan, so her choice of fabric was perfect for her.

The first things you do, if you are going to use two pieces, is match the fabric wrong sides together (so the right sides are facing out). Make sure you cut off any access fabric so that the blanket is even on all four sides.

The next thing you do is cut a 4 X 4 inch square from all four corners. Tonya had this cool gadget. When I made one of these blankets, I just used a ruler. This thing made it much nicer, if you want to invest.

The next thing you do it cut 4 or 5 inch long 1 inch wide strips along all four sides.

Then you tie a knot, using both pieces of fabric. Tonya had picked a solid purple to go under the LSU fabric. So she took a piece of purple fringe and a piece of LSU fringe and tied a knot with them.

See?

And there's your finished fringe.

TIME FOR A VISIT

This past week, I spent time with my husband in our future hometown. Each morning, I got up, took him to work then headed on over to the YMCA for classes. I took Zumba, Palates, Step Box, a toning class, and a class for Adults and Older Adults. So, when did I become an "Older Adult?" I guess two years ago when I turned 50!

Anywho...I enjoyed all my classes, and everyone was so nice. They seem excited for us to move and for me to come to classes on a regular basis. The teachers were very nice and their classes were very enjoyable. One even told me that maybe someday, I could start teaching up there. Boy, did she read my mind. I told here that was my goal...someday...

After I gave my body a workout, I went back to the motel and cleaned up. By that time, It is time to go get Bill and have lunch. After I took him back to work, I had various things to do. I checked out the college and talk to someone about our oldest son getting into the welding program. I also had to check out the mall, Lowe's, and Walmart, the library, and I did some driving around. After work, we looked at houses and went out for dinner.

As I drove around the area, I saw that I am going to like this place. It has a small town feel, but yet is not that small (unless you compare it to some place like Los Angeles). I can see that as soon as we get settled, I will be able to find plenty to get involved with in the community. If our town does not have it, it is only a short distance to a bigger city. Heck, half the time if you live in a big city, you have to travel 30 minutes or so (in heavy traffic) to get there anyway.

This weeks Foto Friday theme is

GREENERY 

This past week, I went to Kentucky to spend time with Bill. While there, we did a little house shopping.

On the way up, I held my camera in my lap and took a few shots.

Did you know there are a lot of towns between here and there with green in their name? Here is one...

There are a lot of lights too. Of course, we hit most of them red. At least my picture of the green light was not blurry from the moving car.

This time of year was not easy to find green pastures.

 

I finally saw some green.

We stopped to get gas, and I was playing with Bill's green water bottle. It turned everything upside down.

These are pretty interesting bushes. There are a lot of them as you travel through Tunica, Mississippi.

They almost look prehistoric.

To me greenery could be just about anything. Green was my favorite color when I was a little girl. It isn't anymore, but I still think it is pretty; and I am grateful that I have a descent pair of eyes that can see all the beautiful greenery in the world.

One of My Favorite Places

Growing up in the East Central Florida area, I had plenty opportunity to go to the beach. I love the beach. I love the feel of the warm sun beating down on me. I love the feel of the sand between my toes. I love the sound of the ocean waves and the birds flying overhead. I even love watching people at the beach.

As a local, one finds their favorite place to go to the beach. As a teenager, I liked heading to Cocoa Beach around 2nd street. That was a long time ago.

When I moved away, and only came to Florida to visit my family, I enjoyed taking my children to Jetty Park. It has changed a lot since I  was a kid. It's much bigger now. There is a campsite (I would love to go camping there someday, but one needs to put in a reservation a year in advanced). There are also bathrooms, and a place to buy food. 

Nice boardwalks surround the area too. 

People come to fish, swim, watch the cruise ships and just hang out It's actually a really nice place for that. Another thing that Jetty Park is good for, is to watch the rocket and shuttle launches, well I guess now just the rocket launches.
