Help! I Need Girls Camp Craft Ideas!!

Hey, all my blogging friends, I have a request...

Last year, I was in charge of girls camp crafts at our church. I guess I did such a good job, that I have been asked to do it again, and I need some ideas. Last year, we made earrings from pop tops off of canned drinks, duct tape bracelets, flip flop note pad, and a pin made of safety pins and beads. This year, I think we are going to do a necklace, beaded bookmarks, maybe a crochet beaded bracelet. As you can see most of my stuff is beaded and/or jewelry. You see, I am a beader, and have been making jewelry for about 14 years now. I think I need to branch out a little for camp. I love to craft, but most of the stuff I come up with is either too pricey or too difficult. One thing I learned last year, that most people are not crafters. So, I need something cheap, easy, fun and maybe a little practical. Last year we had about 40 girls, this year we are expecting probably 50 or so. This year camp will be the first week in June.

I was thinking maybe we could put together some sort of a journal that they could write in during camp, and have some of the girls autograph, and then maybe when they get home, they can put their pictures in it. It would be like a camp scrapbook keepsake. I really don't know how to put this together, though. Any ideas? And...any other craft ideas--with insturctions :)

  2. Read about your need on Tammy's blog. I'd be happy to send you a free copy of my eBook (The Frugal Jeweler - Bangles) that teaches how to make bangles using recycled foam. It's an inexpensive craft and I think a gaggle of girls would enjoy it! I'd love to get feedback from just such a gathering, and that's why I'm offering you the instructions as a gift. Whether they love it or hate it, I'd like to know! If interested, let me know and I'll send you a link so you can download the eBook.

  3. My all time favorite are Artist Trading Cards. Teenagers/kids love them if you make them on real playing cards you can buy at the dollar store. All you need is magazines, gluesticks, scissors and other assorted recycled papers-tissue paper, mailers, wrapping paper, etc. Put a call out in your church for all of the above papers. I collect wrapping paper from wedding/baby showers. Also greeting cards/Christmas cards are great to use for any kind of collage. Use Elmers glue or Aleene's Tacky glue for heavier embellishments such as ribbons, beads, etc. I have a lesson plan and a list of free images from the internet if you would like me to email them to you. All you need is a color printer. Ask for someone at church to donate printing out color images for the ATC's. Then there is the problem of a theme. I think you can just show them an example and give them the stuff after you demo and they will take off with it! I also have visuals of made ATC's I can email you also. Then the best part! Have the girls make two or three and trade one with the group. Put all of the trades in a basket and get everyone to pick one with their eyes closed. If they get their own, have them redraw.
